What rights do I have if ICE shows up at my home?

I am undocumented and living in Houston. I'm scared that immigration officers could come to my home. What are my legal rights if that happens?

Regardless of immigration status, you have constitutional rights in the United States. If ICE comes to your home: (1) You do NOT have to open the door unless they have a judicial warrant signed by a judge — an ICE administrative warrant does NOT require you to open the door. Ask them to slide it under the door and check the signature. (2) You have the right to remain silent. You do not have to answer questions about where you were born or your status. (3) Do not sign anything without speaking to an attorney. Contact an immigration lawyer immediately and consider carrying a "Know Your Rights" card. Organizations like RAICES Texas offer free legal help.
