Eviction filings in Texas's four largest counties reached 142,000 in calendar year 2024, a 9 percent increase over 2023 and the highest total since courts fully reopened after pandemic-era moratoriums ended, according to data released by the Texas Office of Court Administration.
Where Filings Are Concentrated
Harris County alone accounted for 58,000 filings. Research from UT Austin's Eviction Lab shows that more than 70 percent of eviction defendants in Texas appear without an attorney, compared with nearly all landlords who are represented.
